Vad är lantbrukarens syn på länsstyrelsens djurskyddskontroll?

Indications on poor understanding for the animal producers situation from the inspectors of Animal welfare control have been seen in papers from farmers interest organizations. The aim of this study was to investigate what farmers view is on the Animal welfare inspections done by regional Swedish authorities as well as the Animal welfare inspectors work. Association between animal-based measures and register-based welfare indicators in dairy cows : a study of the advisory service "Ask the Cow" and the web report "Animal Welfare Signals"

Animal welfare can be measured in several different ways; for example by using animal-based measurements. It has been shown that register data from the Swedish Official Milk Recording Scheme can be helpful when identifying herds at risk of having poor Animal welfare, which led to a development of the advisory service of ?Ask the Cow? and the web report ?Animal welfare Signals?. The aim of this project was to find out if register data from ?Animal welfare Signals? can be used as a screening tool for detecting herds at risk of having poor Animal welfare and in need of an ?Ask the Cow?.

Djurskydd för paragrafernas eller djurens skull? :

The purpose with this thesis was to form an opinion of how the Animal welfare in Sweden is experienced by both farmers and animal inspectors. A great part of this work consists of an inquiry concerning the south and the middle of Sweden. We sent the inquiries to milk and meat producers and to animal inspectors. The response was high, which indicates that this is a subject that affects many people. Our literature study is mostly made on the library bases LIBRIS and LUKAS. The facts we found there were directed towards animal experimentation and furred animal breeding. In order to compare with earlier results we used investigations that had been made by Riksrevisionen 2003. There is a difference in opinions about the new Swedish Animal welfare agency that started first of January 2004.

Hästhållares uppfattning av Länsstyrelsens tillsyn i Halland

In the beginning of 2009 The County Administrative Boards assumed the responsibility of Animal welfare, a task previously performed by the individual municipalities. This transfer was made with the aim of achieving more efficient and equivalent Animal welfare controls across the country. Previous studies among animal owners have shown a somewhat negative image of Animal welfare controls. This study focuses on investigating the experiences of the horse keepers in the County of Halland concerning Animal welfare. The study is based on a questionnaire which was sent to 423 horse keepers in Halland, of which 130 were returned with information that laid the foundation of this study.

Kommunikation mellan djurskyddsinspektörer och djurägare

This paper discusses Animal welfare, and Sweden, as an EU member state, has a responsibility toensure that official Animal welfare inspections are carried out in accordance with communityregulations. The first of January 2009, the welfare moved from the municipalities in to the 21county administrative boards. This restructuring was made due to the deficiencies that the auditconducted by the EU of the FVO (Food and Veterinary Office) 2003 found in the Swedishsystem. Sweden failed in coordination and inspection to ensure Animal welfare. The aim of this examination paper is to shed light on Animal welfare work operated in the countyof Halland and in Sweden in general. The paper focuses on a few questions.

I have also studied the farmers view about Animal welfare inspectors' knowledge, both theoretical and practical. The questionnaire also included questions about farmers' view on Animal welfare legislation.

Impact of EU-regulation on pigs? welfare during transport

Each year 225 million pigs are transported within the European Union (EU) for slaughter, fattening and breeding. This results in poor Animal welfare due to the fact that animals are exposed to several numbers of stress factors in the vehicle during loading, transit and unloading. Animal welfare can be defined as how well the animal attempts to cope with its environment and during transport there is often severe difficulty for the pigs to cope properly. There is a growing societal concern for Animal welfare. This resulted in that the European Union enacted a law called the EU-regulation with certain directives of how to improve the welfare of the animals during transport.

Evaluation of animal welfare education in primary schools in Lilongwe, Malawi

Animal welfare issues are not considered as high priority in Malawi, a developing country in south east Africa, due to problems affecting the human population. In Lilongwe, the capital city, education programs are used to increase the awareness of Animal welfare issues among primary school children. A study was undertaken to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practice of Animal welfare in primary school children as well as two different teaching methods for Animal welfare, namely humane lessons (HL) and Animal Kindness Clubs (AKC). The gender perspective, in terms of differences in attitude towards and knowledge in Animal welfare, was also evaluated as well as the link between domestic and animal violence. The study was performed in collaboration with Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA). A questionnaire of multiple choice character was handed out to 249 children aged between 9 and 15 from six different schools.

Evaluation of the animal welfare work performed by the licensing committees and a proposal on how to establish an enhanced animal welfare assurance program for the Swedish Trotting Association

According to the basic values of the Swedish Trotting Association the horse and its welfare should always be held in highest consideration. One part of the Animal welfare work in the organization is to ensure good horse management practices by controlling all active trainers through the local licensing committees situated at the Swedish racetracks. The Swedish Board of Agriculture stated that high quality Animal welfare assurance programs used by the industry organizations can be used in the risk assessment of the official Animal welfare control to make the official control work more effective and the ambition of the Swedish Trotting Association is to establish an Animal welfare assurance program which may be approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture. Racehorses are exposed to welfare hazards both in their management as well as during training and racing and factors like handling, training, feedstuff, stable environment, medication and the possibility to express natural behavior all affect the welfare of the horses. The aim of the project is to investigate and evaluate the Animal welfare work performed by the licensing committees and to give advice on how to improve the industry?s Animal welfare control.

Ethical impact on EU animal welfare policies : the example of Article 13

On December 1th 2009 the Lisbon Treaty entered into force, and through Article 13, the recognition of animals as sentient being was given a more visible part in the very core of EU law. This was an effect of a political decision to commit to the issue, partly because of the will to further harmonize the EU market, but also due to increased societal concern for the wellbeing of animals. Over the last decades, ethical awareness is growing in many countries, one reason being new scientific discovery. This influences legislators and policy makers to take proper action, and in this way, ethics and science often work together as the very basis for the development of new legislation and policies. There is yet to be seen what the actual consequences of Article 13 will be, since the legal obligation remains the same and there are still some reservations in it.
